Q&A with Yorkville U’s Bhanu Partap Sood – BBA Project Management Graduation Speaker in BC

Bhanu Partap Sood

Bhanu Partap Sood was in New Zealand finishing up a business diploma in digital marketing when he decided to move halfway around the world to continue his studies at Yorkville University.

Fast-forward two and a half years, and he’s now poised to take to the podium at Yorkville’s upcoming convocation ceremony in Vancouver to represent his classmates as this year’s Student Graduation Speaker.

Throughout his academic journey in the Bachelor of Business Administration program (with a Specialization in Project Management), Sood consistently demonstrated this level of dedication and commitment to excellence.

During his tenure as a Student Ambassador at Yorkville University, Sood excelled in enhancing the student experience and fostering campus community engagement.

“This experience honed my leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, which are complemented by my proven ability to develop and execute digital marketing strategies,” said Sood, who now serves as the Social Media Director for the Project Management Institute (PMI) Canadian West Coast Chapter

With a strong foundation in project management and marketing, coupled with his hands-on experience and leadership skills, Sood believes he is now poised to make a positive impact in the field.

“I look forward to leveraging my skills and experiences to drive success in my future endeavors.”

Sood recently sat down to reflect on his time at Yorkville University and his plans for the future. Here’s what he had to say:

What brought you to Yorkville University? Where were you in your life/career when you decided to continue your studies with us?

I was attracted to Yorkville University for its reputation for academic excellence and its option to fast-track the degree, allowing completion in 2.5 years, which was very appealing to me. While I had always planned to complete a bachelor’s degree, I decided to choose Yorkville while I was in New Zealand. A year after completing my diploma, I made the decision to continue my studies.

What made you decide to pursue your Bachelor of Business Administration degree?

I chose to pursue my Bachelor of Business Administration, because of my passion for business and my desire to deepen my understanding of key business concepts and practices, particularly in project management. I believe that a BBA will equip me with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in managing projects or running my own business someday.

What is the most important thing you’re taking away from your studies at Yorkville University?

The most important things I am taking away from my studies at Yorkville University are the invaluable knowledge and skills I have acquired, as well as the relationships I have forged with the faculty, professors, and fellow students, both as a student and as a student ambassador. These experiences have not only enriched my academic journey but have also prepared me for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

What are your plans after graduation, both immediate and long term?

After graduation, my immediate plan is to gain my PMP certification as well as explore career opportunities that align with my interests and goals. In the long term, I aspire to further my education and pursue a master’s degree in business administration to enhance my professional qualifications and career prospects.

If you offered one piece of advice to an incoming student, what would that be?

If I could offer one piece of advice to an incoming student, it would be to embrace every opportunity for learning and growth, both inside and outside the classroom. Take advantage of the resources and support available at Yorkville University, and never stop challenging yourself to achieve your goals. Additionally, I would advise them to consider college as a chance to sharpen their social skills, as networking is a skill that will be required throughout life.
