Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) alumnus Cindy Torreiro was recently featured in AZURE Magazine – an award-winning, international magazine focusing on contemporary architecture and design.
Torreiro, who graduated from Yorkville University’s online BID program in 2023, discusses with the magazine her decision to pivot from a series of successful stints as a costume designer, set decorator, graphic designer and production manager to ultimately fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming an interior designer.
She also talks about the role her studies at Yorkville University – which boasts Canada’s only fully online CIDA-accredited program of its kind – played in helping to pave the way to her landing a dream job she otherwise never would have imagined possible: as an aircraft interior designer for Bombardier.
“It’s interesting how we don’t tend to think of aviation and interior design in tandem. I’ve always loved both, but honestly never thought about a career in aircraft design – until I saw the job posting,” she tells the magazine.
“I read it over, and I thought to myself, ‘I can do this.’ I think that says something about Yorkville University and the BID program. Even though the curriculum didn’t touch on aviation per se, the fact that we were exposed to such a broad view of the design industry really opened me up to the diversity of possibilities.”
